SHAZAM supports Iowa community after tornado

SHAZAM®,a nationwide provider of financial services for community banks and credit unions, today donated $10,000 to the Greater Greenfield Community Foundation to support recovery efforts following a tornado that struck Greenfield, Iowa, on May 21.

The donation was made in honor of Peg Scott, CEO of Union State Bank and a member of SHAZAM’s board of directors. Union State Bank operates a branch in Greenfield and serves as a long-standing SHAZAM member.

SHAZAM is one of the nation’s few member-owned debit processing and core services providers. Its ownership structure allows member institutions to vote and participate in guiding the company’s direction, creating a shared investment in the success of community financial institutions.

“Our members are also our partners,” said SHAZAM President & CEO Paul Waltz. “Supporting them during times of hardship goes beyond providing financial services.”

Authorities reported five fatalities and at least three dozen injuries from the tornado that tore through southwest Iowa. The National Weather Service confirmed EF-4 damage in Greenfield, with estimated peak winds of 175 to 185 mph. Community leaders say long-term support will be needed as rebuilding continues.

We understand the role local financial institutions play in supporting their communities,” Waltz added. “This donation reflects our mission to stand alongside those dedicated to helping their neighbors."
